Courses & curriculum

What you'll learn, and who's teaching it.

6 questions

Two courses, both built to make records.

Music Production for Freelancers is for people who want to produce for hire or open their own studio — the craft plus the business of getting paid. Music Production for Artists is for self-producing artists who want to finish and release their own music to a professional standard. Tell us what you want to make and we'll point you at the right one.

Freelancers is geared toward producing for other artists and running it as a business — pricing, clients, the workflow that gets you paid. Artists is geared toward producing and releasing your own music to a release-ready standard. There's a lot of shared craft — production, mixing, finishing records — so if you're between the two, say so in your enquiry and we'll help you pick.

No. We take people from their first project to artists already releasing. What matters is that you want to make music and you'll do the work — we'll meet you where you are and push from there. If you're unsure you're a fit, that's exactly what the enquiry is for.

We teach the way the industry actually works, in real DAWs — the skills transfer across whichever you land on, so you're not locked to one tool. A laptop, headphones and a willingness to track ideas is enough to start; we'll tell you the short list of anything else before you begin. The in-person sessions put you on professional consoles and outboard you won't have at home.

Far from just theory — but let's be straight with you. We don't just sit down and make a record together. What you get instead is the start-to-finish process you can apply to your own projects — hands-on and practical, theory paired with real-world examples drawn from records we've actually made, and you're recording on the SSL console by the middle of week one. Mentored by engineers with real chart credits, not academics reading from slides.

Working engineers and producers with real credits — including ARIA #1s and over 5 billion streams. Some of our instructors trained under Grammy-winning engineers Michael Brauer and David Kahne, and bring those techniques straight into the room. You're learning from people who do this for a living, and who'll give you 1:1 feedback on your own work.

Enrolment & entry

Getting in, intakes, and how it's delivered.

6 questions

Start with an enquiry. Tell us what you want to make and where you're at — we'll come back with the next intake, fees, and whether you're a fit. No obligation, no hard sell. If it's right, we'll walk you through the steps to lock your place.

Intakes run through the year and places per cohort are deliberately limited so mentor feedback stays 1:1. Rather than post a date that goes stale, send an enquiry — we'll give you the next available intake and hold you a spot while you decide.

No audition. We're not interested in where you went to school or whether you can read music — we care that you'll do the work. The enquiry is a short conversation so both sides know it's a fit before you commit.

Both. Our courses combine structured learning you can do around your life, the course textbooks to work from and keep, and in-person studio time on professional consoles. Tell us how you want to learn and we'll match you to the right format and intake.

The in-person days run roughly 9 to 5 — though we'll happily push into overtime when everyone's in the zone. Around that, it's built to fit your life, not replace it: the more you put into your own tracks between sessions, the more your mentor has to work with. We'll give you a realistic weekly picture for your course before you start.

Yes — most of our students do. That's the whole point of an industry route over a full-time degree: you build real skills and a catalogue without putting the rest of your life on hold.

03

Fees & funding

What it costs, and how to pay for it.

5 questions

Our accelerated courses start from $4,890 (inc GST) — a fraction of a multi-year university degree, and built so you come out with real skills and real studio experience instead of years of debt. Exact fees depend on the course and intake, so we'll confirm your figure in your enquiry. Make records, not debt.

Not at this stage — we don't currently offer payment plans. If the fee is a hurdle, say so in your enquiry and we'll have an honest conversation rather than letting cost quietly rule you out.

Yes — and faster. A music or audio degree is multiple years and tens of thousands in debt, much of it spent on filler that won't help you make a record. Our courses are measured in weeks, cost a fraction, and put you in front of working engineers instead of lecture theatres. That's the trade we're built on.

Your course, your 1:1 mentor feedback during the course, the course textbooks and curriculum materials, and the studio time that comes with your format. The 12-month mentoring program is an optional extra on top — for anyone who wants ongoing guidance once the course wraps. No surprise add-ons buried in the fine print: we'll itemise exactly what's included when we quote you.

We'll always have the refund and deferral terms in writing before you pay a cent — nothing's hidden. If life gets in the way, talk to us; we'd rather move you to a later intake than lose you. Ask in your enquiry and we'll send the full terms.

Careers & outcomes

Where this actually takes you.

5 questions

We don't sell guaranteed jobs — anyone who does is lying. What we give you is the thing the industry actually hires on: real skills, the craft to finish your own records, and a network of working engineers who've heard your work. You leave able to make releases people want to put out.

We're an industry course, not a university — by design, and we're not a Registered Training Organisation. Our currency is your work and the credits of the people who taught you, not a piece of paper that impresses no one in a studio. If formal accreditation matters for your specific goal, tell us in your enquiry and we'll be straight with you about whether we're the right route.

Real production and mixing skills, genuine hands-on time recording in a professional studio, a plan to actually put your own music out and get paid, and 1:1 feedback from engineers who work at the top of the industry. Real skills and real experience, not just a transcript.

You're learning directly from working engineers and producers — that is the connection. The relationships you build over 1:1 feedback and real sessions are worth more than any careers-services brochure. The industry runs on who's heard your work; we put you in the room.

Releasing artists, working producers, engineers running their own sessions. Outcomes vary with the work you put in — what's consistent is people leaving with the skills to finish their own records to a standard that stands up outside the classroom. Ask us in your enquiry and we'll talk you through student work.

About the academy

Who we are and how to reach a human.

4 questions

We teach how records actually get made, by people who actually make them — no lecture halls, no filler, no years of debt for skills you could build in weeks. A university gives you a degree; we hand you the real craft of how a record comes together, mentors with genuine credits, and a faster way into the industry. The industry-based alternative to uni, in one line.

Engineers and producers with genuine industry credits — ARIA #1s, ARIA-nominated releases, and over 5 billion streams. Some of our instructors trained under Grammy-winning engineers Michael Brauer and David Kahne. Real proof, not aspirational marketing — and they give you 1:1 feedback on your own tracks.

We're based in Melbourne, training at The Avenue Recording Studio — a professional commercial studio — with course content built to reach students wherever they are. Send an enquiry and we'll tell you exactly what's running near you and when.

Send an enquiry. It goes to actual humans at the academy — not a bot, not a call centre — and we'll come back with straight answers on intake, fees and fit. Tell us what you want to make and we'll take it from there.
